You want a quick quote, but here at TMS, we don’t give cost estimates without seeing your home and system in person. What gives?

“Can you just give me an estimate over the phone?

We hear this question at least once a week. We aren’t trying to be rude or sound like we are putting you off, but no. While the answer is very simple, there’s so much that goes into the reasoning.

Here are four reasons why we and many other contractors don’t give price quotes over the phone:

1. We want to be thorough.

Even if you’re able to give a perfect description of your home and the system you’re looking for or the repair you need completed, we might be looking for things which aren’t apparent to the untrained eye.

When we have a chance to come into your home and inspect your system with our own eyes, you have the greatest chance of getting the best service.

Plus, talking a project through with a homeowner when we can everything firsthand helps us to better understand you and your system’s needs!

2. We want our cost quote to be accurate.

Sometimes there are details that might get overlooked by a homeowner because you see them every day, but our professional technicians and Comfort Consultants might think otherwise.

And vice versa: What might seem like a huge issue to you, ex. your A/C not turning on at all, could really just be a minor repair to us. It’s all in the details.

3. We want to give you a fair estimate.

We don’t want to overcharge you, but if we can’t actually see your home and what we’re working with, it’s very difficult for us to be precise, especially when it comes to quoting a new or replacement HVAC system.

We need to take measurements, perform heat load tests, and much more. If we’re unable to do those things, we can’t provide the most accurate quote. Above all else, we can’t quote the right size system, which could lead to charging you more money than need be for an oversized system or having an undersized system put in that doesn’t perform the job adequately for your home.  And that’s just not fair to anyone.

4. Each home is unique.

Just like people, every home is unique. There’s not a single one that is exactly the same.

We really do care about your home and what you require from your HVAC system, and we want you to be pleased with any services/repairs we provide and/or any final system installation. If we’re unable to be thorough, accurate and fair, it’s unlikely you’ll be 100% satisfied which is what we always strive for.

Having one of our professional technicians or Comfort Consultants meet with you at your home and provide an on-site estimate for repairs you may need or for a new or replacement system allows you to talk face-to-face and know they’re not only listening, but that they also understand and can solve any and all of your home comfort needs.
