This is probably a question you’ve considered if you’ve come here. We’re in a trying time in American history. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is spreading  around the world and millions are concerned for their own health and well-being of their families.

There’s a lot of widespread panic and people are hording toilet paper for some strange reason. People are being told to shelter-in-place in some parts of the United States and schools are closed everywhere. We’re also “social distancing” ourselves from other people outside our homes. Things that American’s are not used to at all. It’s a strange time to say the least.

However, we must remember to take a breath. We as individuals really can’t control what’s happening out there. We can only control what we do ourselves and in our homes. And thankfully, the indoor air quality of our homes in something WE CAN control.

Some of What We’ve Learned To Stop The Spread

We’ve learned so much about how to curtail this deadly virus and stop its spread the past few weeks. The CDC has given us a load of information on what we can do as a society. Information like, how to avoid being exposed or exposing others. But nobody is really talking about how to manage this in our own homes indoor air itself to combat COVID-19.

Indoor Air Quality Solutions

For years, hospitals have been required to regulate their indoor air quality solutions to prevent the spread of hospital acquired infections such as Coronavirus, SARS, MERS, sepsis, pneumonia, etc. Hospitals use their elaborate HVAC systems to accomplish this task. It’s been a big factor in what makes hospitals safe for patients. But, did you know that you can do the same for your home?

IAQ Products Might Reduce The Spread of COVID-19

The Carrier Corporation Carrier has two products that can inactivate certain viruses, bacteria and/or mold – the DGAPA Infinity air purifier and UV lights. However, it must be noted, Carrier cannot claim these products are effective at inactivating COVID-19, because this strain has not been tested on these products yet. Clearly that makes sense, for liability purposes on their part, but we can assume that their products should be pretty effective regardless. Its going to take testing for them to certify this as true.

Carrier® Air PurifiersWhole House Air Purifier Installation in Connecticut - indoor air quality

Carrier Infinity air purifier works silently in-line with your HVAC system and can make the air you breathe healthier. It uses Captures & Kills™ technology to trap up to 95% of particles, then uses an electrical charge to kill or inactive them.

Independent testing has also proven the Infinity air purifier’s effectiveness against 3 pathogens including the common cold surrogate.

With every cycle of air that passes through this patented air purifying system, pollen, animal dander, smoke, bacteria and other pollutants are trapped and held tightly to the filter. An electrical charge then bursts the cell walls of pathogens it comes in contact with.

Carrier® UV LightsCarrier UV Light | Total Mechanical Systems LLC

Performance™ Series Germicidal UV lamps mean lights out for mold and bacteria. They kill the organisms that can grow on the indoor coil of your cooling system. Eliminating these baddies does more than help improve your air quality, it increases your system performance as well.

Summary

Getting high efficiency air purifiers and UV lights installed can help reduce the transmission of certain viruses, bacteria and/or mold through a homeowner’s HVAC system. Although none of these products are proven to effectively reduce COVID-19, because testing hasn’t been done of this new disease, we can make the assumption that these products can be highly effective.
