Turn the Thermostat Up When Everyone Leaves

There’s no point in paying for air conditioning when no one is home to enjoy it. When you’re headed out for school and work, make sure to crank up the thermostat to around 78. If you have a programmable thermostat or a smart thermostat, you can set it to change to this temperature every day when you leave and to cool back down a few degrees when school ends.

Do you work from home but have kids’ upstairs bedrooms that will go unoccupied all day? Increase the temperature on your upstairs thermostat until school is out. You’ll be surprised how much lower your bill will be.

If you have extracurricular activities or sports practices throughout the week, a smart thermostat is a great investment. If you forget to adjust your thermostat at home, you can make adjustments on your phone so the air conditioning won’t kick on until after your event.
